Former Coyote standout Raeshel Contreras has signed to play with Killester, a premier basketball team in Ireland.
A native of San Francisco, Calif., Contreras finished off her two-year career at South Dakota with 927 points, 168 rebounds, 140 assists, and 109 steals. Nearly half of her career point total came from beyond the arc, where she downed 147 threes.
“It’s a blessing to continue to play,” Contreras said. “It has always been a dream of mine to play professionally. Without the help of my coaches and teammates, I would not have had this opportunity.”
Contreras earned first-team all-Summit League honors in 2014-15 with her 14.9 points per game. She helped the Coyotes stay undefeated at home, an overall record of 26-8, and a regular season Summit League title.
The Killester Killadies advanced to the 2014-15 national cup final after a sixth-place finish in regular season play.
“I feel like I instantly bonded with my new team,” said Contreras. “The team has been pretty successful in the past, but they lost in the championship last year. We’re hoping to change that this season.”
In addition to playing for the Killester Basketball Club’s premier team, Contreras will coach the club’s 11-year-old and 14-year-old teams.
