The U.S. Department of Agriculture is opening up the next round of the general signup for the Conservation Reserve Program. USDA Under Secretary Bill Northey says farmers can enroll starting on January 4 for six weeks.

Northey says there is room for additional acres in the CRP program. He encourages producers to participate in the program even though grain prices may make it more attractive to crop those acres.

The cap for CRP is set at 27 million acres nationwide.
