Conservation Program Enrollment Numbers Up

Farmers and ranchers in the region have been dealing with very challenging weather this season and that has led to increased interest and enrollment in conservation programs. NRCS State Conservationist for South Dakota Jeff Zimprich says they’ve had large signups in several of their programs.

He says most farmers were able to combat with the weather challenges better this year by implementing various conservation programs.

Zimprich says farmers have also told him the use of conservation practices in their operations over time has also been a benefit in dealing with excessive moisture.

Zimprich says one of the programs they’re just now wrapping up is a special easement program on flooded lands and the response on that has been positive.
