Last week was funnel week in the Iowa legislature where lawmakers culled the number of bills that will move forward this session. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says one of their budget priorities is providing funding for conservation and the nutrient reduction management program.
He says they’re monitoring various pieces of legislation to support conservation and the nutrient reduction management strategy. Governor Branstad’s plan to use some education dollars is one they’re considering.
Hill says the nutrient reduction management strategy, which is already underway, is a good program that’s bringing positive results. However, he says it will take a lot of time and money to reach its objectives.
Hill says having a reliable source of funding for these programs important. He says waiting until the end of the year to see what money is left over doesn’t work.
