A Nebraska Congressman is working on legislation which would overhaul the federal welfare program.
Congressman Adrian Smith, as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, proposes to replace TANF, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program with the JOBS for Success Act. Smith says TANF, enacted 22 years ago, gave states great flexibility in spending federal welfare money, but some states abused that flexibility
Smith is co-sponsoring the bill which he hopes will address some of the problems which have arisen with the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
