Congressman Smith Says NAFTA Discussions Moving in Right Direction

A Nebraska Congressman says negotiations to modernize NAFTA are moving in the right direction.
Congressman Adrian Smith has been in on negotiations, first in Canada and now in Mexico, as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Smith says the issues raised by the two countries differ, pointing to Canada’s insistence on taxing on-line sales at a much higher rate than the U-S.

Smith worries President Trump’s move to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum could lead to a trade war, with United States agriculture caught in a bulls-eye.
Smith says he understands the president claims that he’s acting in the national interest.

Smith worries countries might retaliate against the United States, targeting American agriculture.
