Nebraska Congressman Adrian Smith is more confident a new Farm Bill can be approved before the current one ends now that the House has approved its version.
Smith calls the narrow passage of the bill in the House a good first step. He understands work requirements in the food stamp program will be a big sticking point between the House and Senate versions. . .
The House version would require 20 hours of work a week or enrollment in job training to receive food stamps. It also restricts eligibility.
Smith is pleased with the crop insurance program. He says crop insurance is better than approaching natural disasters piecemeal. . .
The current bill runs out at the end of September.
