Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says a vote on ratification of the USMCA likely won’t happen until next year. He says there isn’t enough time to complete the steps needed in order to get the pact through Congress. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says it’s an important agreement for farmers and ranchers in all three countries and the sooner they can get it done the better.
He says it’s important to have good trade deals with countries that we have friendly relations with and Canada and Mexico fit that for the United States.
VanderWal says its critical America’s farmers and ranchers have solid trade agreements in place like the USMCA and even deals if they’re only bilateral in nature.
VanderWal says it’s positive the International Trade Commission has begun the process of assessing the USMCA and has put out a schedule to begin that.
