Two Congressional members held a farm bill roundtable event on Tuesday to listen to farm and commodity organization speak about the next farm bill legislation.  Congressman Dusty Johnson of South Dakota and Pennsylvania Congressman Glen Thompson, the ranking member of the U-S House Agriculture Committee, heard comments from various South Dakota agriculture officials.  Congressman Johnson says holding such events as yesterday’s round table discussion is beneficial in creating the next farm bill.  The South Dakota Congressman says it is important for the nation to create a good farm legislation to preserve food security.  Congressman Thompson echoed Johnson’s sentiment about the importance of listening to farmers to create the next farm bill.  He says he wants to make certain the farm bill is not to be heavily influenced by special interests groups outside of agriculture.  The current farm legislation is set to expire in September of 2023.
