Congress has approved a highway bill ahead of taking off for the August recess. On Wednesday, the House passed a short three month measure and sent it over to the Senate before adjourning. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director, Mike Steenhoek says even though the Senate wanted a longer term bill, they had to approve the House bill, or see highway funding dry up.
Steenhoek says Senators want to eventually get a longer term measure approved and likely will bring it up again following the August recess.
He says both the House and Senate need to identify a proper way of funding highway projects.
Steenhoek says while the Senate is looking at a six year highway bill, with three years of that funded, the House’s measure was finally approved and is only a three month piece of legislation.
