Friday, the Senate followed the House and approved a $1.3 trillion Omnibus Appropriations Bill that funds the government through 2018. American Soybean Association Board member Kevin Scott says he’s disappointed the biodiesel tax credit was not included in the measure.
He says now it looks like a repeat of past years when biodiesel backers must go back to Congress at the end of the year and to get something approved retroactively.
Scott says appropriators also failed to adequately fund USDA market development programs, including the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program.
Officials with the National Biodiesel Board say for some smaller biodiesel producers, not having the credit can be the difference between keeping the lights on or shutting down.
