Conference Committee Has Challenge Reconciling Farm Bill

The House-Senate conference committee has their work cut out for them in putting together a final 2018 farm bill. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says they have broad differences that need to be ironed out, with the SNAP and the Nutrition Title the biggest difference.

He says the Senate farm bill not only retains CSP, but boosts its funding. Johnson says there are also differences on several minor provisions that need to be worked out.

Johnson says for conferees to pass a new farm bill and avoid an extension, House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway will have to compromise and loosen work requirement placed on SNAP.

Johnson says the conference committee will have to find middle ground that both parties can agree on.
