Compromise Sought On Floodwaters Disputes

The Watershed Task Force of the South Dakota Legislature has been working for a couple of years to find compromises between landowners with flooded property, and sportsmen who want to use public access to those waters.

Recently township boards in Day County have vacated some section lines that have been flooded for some years, effectively shutting down public access.

Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot, and a member of the task force, says lawmakers are looking for compromises…

Frerichs says it will take a combination of local and state officials working together for some solutions…

Frerichs says actions of the Day County townships may be appealed by the Game, Fish and Parks Department…

The task force will meet again this fall in an attempt to find some acceptable legislation.
