Sioux Falls based Sonstegard Foods wants to build a large chicken operation in Turner County near Parker, South Dakota. Company Vice President Pete Sonstegard says their ten year goal with the project is to raise 6 million birds. He says their facility will bring added benefits to the local agricultural economy and help area farmers.
Sonstegard says their facility is state of the art and is very environmentally friendly.
Sonstegard says they’re getting a lot of backing from the local ag community for their project.
He says their goal is to eventually employ 150 people. Sonstegard says once they get approval and begin moving dirt, it’ll take 18 months for them to be operational.
