The three states on the Republican River have reached an agreement regarding water use in the Republican River basin. Nebraska Farm Bureau Senior Economist Jay Rempe says the deal is positive for irrigators in the three states in the compact.

He says the agreement puts a plan in place that will eliminate any uncertainty with use of the river water.

Rempe says there are several irrigators effected by the agreement.

Rempe says the deal also eliminates the need for costly litigation between the three states and puts in place a plan for the states to work together on water issues in the basin.
