Several communities in South Dakota have received funding from the Department of Health to conduct Walk Audits.  South Dakota State University Nutrition Field Specialist, Ann Schwader, said these audits can potentially improve the health of residents in all the communities chosen to receiving funding…

While the audits are only collecting information, Schwader is hopeful that the City Councils of Burke, Sioux Falls, Pierre and Rapid City will take the next steps to improving the community…

Schwader said the audits are conducted by a local team that will assess the safety, accessibility, convenience, and aesthetics of routes that are and could be used for active transportation.
