Commodity Groups file for Appeal on EPA Revisions

Two petitions have been filed to a federal appeals court this week, asking the court to set aside EPA’s revised greenhouse gas emissions standards.  The two petitions were filed between state soybean associations, corn growers, and biofuels producers claiming the EPA’s revised standards create a bias towards electric vehicles as the only solution to reducing gas emissions in the transport sector, at the virtual exclusion of biofuels. South Dakota Soybean Association is among the 17 groups that filed and Executive Director Jerry Schmitz says that there are multiple issues with the EPA’s revisions.

Schmitz says the EPA is not giving biofuels credit for lowering emissions compared to electric vehicles.

He says the next steps are to see what EPA’s response will be to the petition but regardless they have overstepped their boundaries.

Iowa, North Dakota, and Minnesota Soybean Associations are also filed in these petitions.
