An interim South Dakota Legislative committee has agreed to a package of bills dealing with alcohol tax changes.

The Alcoholic Beverage Distribution Study committee wrapped up their summer series yesterday in Pierre.

The committee had been working through proposals that would change the way alcohol taxes are charged and collected.

The bills would tax alcohol on a per gallon basis, instead of percentages, similar to the tax on beer.

Jason Evans, with the Department of Revenue, says tax rates will change, but the dollars back to the state stay about the same…

Evans says the distribution formula also has to change…

Committee Chairman, Representative Roger Solum of Watertown said they made a lot of progress over the interim…

The package of four bills now moves to the 2015 session.
