Committee Meets To Discuss Possible Zoning Compromise

A committee of six Bon Homme county South Dakota residents met last week to talk about a possible compromise into zoning issues regarding confined animal feeding operations. Committee member and local pork producer Justin Rothschadl says one of the areas of agreement reached called for better communication.

He says another area of agreement they’re recommending is to have better one on one relations between producers and neighboring landowners to work out problems before regulations are put in.

Rothschadl says they’re still working to find middle ground and have yet to reach agreement on any possible setbacks.

Rothschadl says producers on the committee wanted no setbacks while the other committee members are looking for a one mile setback. A Zoning Board meeting is scheduled for today and they are expected to hear the committee’s report and then make recommendations to the full Commission at their July meeting.
