The U.S. Commerce Department has announced preliminary countervailing duties on Vietnam in response to that country’s currency manipulation practices. Coalition for a Prosperous America CEO Michael Stumo says Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross made the right decision in sanctioning Vietnam for this unfair trade practice.

He says though the action against Vietnam involves tires, the currency manipulation hurts U.S. agriculture and our exports to that Asian country.

Stumo says USTR Robert Lighthizer is also conducting a Section 301 investigation into Vietnam that could result in even more duties.

Stumo says the Commerce Department is also investigating possible currency manipulation done by Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand.
