Comments Welcome on USDA Proposed Rule on Highly Erodible Lands and Wetlands

USDA has issued a proposed interim final rule on highly erodible lands and wetlands conservation and farmers have until February 5 to submit their comments. Iowa Farm Bureau Environmental Policy Adviser Rick Robinson says they’re still putting together their comments.

He says USDA has good intentions, but how wetlands are defined is yet to be understood.

Robinson says for this regulation to be effective, it must be workable, transparent and consistent, as well as easy for farmers to understand.

Robinson says comments can be made at USDA’s website or for further information log onto the Iowa Farm Bureau website.
