North American Meat Institute officials are pleased the comment period for the recommended dietary guidelines have been extended until May 8 of 2015. Meat Institute’s Eric Mittenthal says it’s good the time was extended for comments due mainly to not only the length of the report but also the ensuing problems with it.
Mittenthal says the recommendations by the dietary committee have several problems including the inconsistency of the overall report.
Mittenthal says another problem with the original recommendation is that the Dietary Guideline committee went out of their area of expertise in focusing on sustainability when their members don’t have the expertise to make those judgments.
