Friday is the deadline to submit comments on the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s recommendations for new dietary guidelines for Americans. Many livestock groups have been unhappy with the initial proposal including the National Pork Producers Council. Assistant Director of Science & Technology Dan Kovich says the guidelines really missed the mark.

He says they’re hoping for some big changes in the final rule and are submitting comments reflecting that.

US Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says once comments are collected, the Departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture will work together to release a final proposal.

Vilsack says the dietary guidelines should be finalized by the later part of 2015.
