Colder Weather Heightens PED Virus Concerns

The drastic weather change in the Northern Plains this week with very cold temperatures has also led to increased concerns for pork producers battling a serious virus. National Pork Producers Council President Dr. Howard Hill, an Iowa Veterinarian says more PED virus cases have already cropped up recently leaving even more concern for the winter ahead.
Hill says other weather concerns for pork producers center around shipping of animals. He says to be careful and make sure slats are on the trucks. He also says that for the confined animals, it’s getting rid of heat that’s more of an issue.
Hill says producers can’t let their guard down when the weather changes and need to continue practicing good bio security in battling the PED virus.
