The National Farmers Union, American Farm Bureau and Farm Credit are teaming up to help farmers manage stress. NFU President Roger Johnson says it’s a continuation of efforts that began with the last farm bill to provide training for those to help producers deal with stress.

He says the coalition is working with Michigan State University on the farm stress training.

Johnson says the training is based on having mental health experts and others listen to farmers who are under pressure, depressed or even suicidal.

Under a recent survey commissioned by the American Farm Bureau, nearly half of rural adults said they are personally experiencing more mental health challenges than they were a year ago.
