A coalition of agricultural and business groups including the National Pork Producers Council is very concerned that Canada and Mexico will retaliate if the U.S. doesn’t fix Country of Origin Labeling. The WTO found the regulation trade distorting and now the groups want Congress to throw out the part of COOL that violates trade. NPPC President Dr. Howard Hill says the punitive actions will hit many ag and non ag products.
Hill says there is no easy fix to the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling rule.
Hill says Canada has already prepared a retaliation list while Mexico has yet to weigh in. He expects the total to have an astronomical and costly affect should they move forward.
