A coalition of groups including the American Antitrust Institute, Food and Water Watch and the National Farmers Union has written the U.S. Justice Department outlining concerns of the proposed merger of Monsanto and Bayer. American Antitrust Institute President Diana Moss says if the merger is approved, it along with Dow DuPont and Syngenta Chem China will leave those three in control of the agricultural biotechnology industry.

She adds that if Monsanto and Bayer’s merger is given the go ahead, it along with the other mega mergers will lead to elimination of research and development competition for ag producers.

Moss says she’s confident the Justice Department will investigate the Monsanto-Bayer merger thoroughly and her coalition wants to help them in that process.

Moss says it’s critical that farmers, consumers and all those possibly effected by this proposed merger make their views known to the Justice Department.
