The Coalition to Stop Fast Track is working to convince members of Congress to defeat Trade Promotion Authority Legislation. The organization is made up of over 100 groups representing labor unions, environmental and consumer and grass roots groups. Coalition’s Jason Stanford says one of the major problems with fast track is it continues the ever widening trade deficit the U.S. is facing. He says that grew even more just this month.
Stanford says another critical problem with fast track or TPA is currency manipulation being used by U.S. trading partners. He says currency manipulation is a term that means other countries are using American dollars to effect the value of their currency.
He says another danger with debate over fast track is that it may keep Congress from getting needed work done that could hurt the U.S. economy.
Stanford says currently President Obama is several votes short, even in his own party of passing Trade Promotion Authority legislation.
