A coalition of Agricultural groups led by Growth Energy says Brazil’s decision to impose a 20 percent tariff on all U.S. ethanol imports devastating for the U.S. ethanol industry. Growth Energy’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley says the imposition comes at a bad time when the U.S. ethanol industry is already seeing lost demand.

Since May, U.S. exports to Brazil have fallen to less than four million gallons and over that same time period, Brazil has exported nearly 96 million gallons of fuel ethanol to the United States. Bliley says that’s not exactly fair trade.

He says Growth Energy will be working with President Elect Joe Biden and his administration to address this trade imbalance.

Other members of the Ag Coalition concerned with this issue include: the U.S. Grains Council, the National Corn Grower’s and Renewable Fuels Associations.
