The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition (MSAC) has been working to find solutions to the ongoing silt flow into Lewis & Clark Lake. The lake has been slowing filling in ever since Gavins Point Dam was closed in the 1950s.
A bill passed by Congress this year contains some funding for a new program that may lead to some solutions.
Yankton City Commissioner Charlie Gross, who represents the city on MSAC, says Corps of Engineers is coordinating the next study..
Gross says they are still working out who will take the lead…
Gross says it is a new approach for everyone involved….
Members of the coalition hope the Corps could come up with a tentative action plan by next summer.
