The National Association of Conservation Districts along with over 250 other groups sent a letter to Congressional Budget leaders asking them not to cut Farm Bill programs for fiscal year 2017. NACD President Lee McDaniel says when the 2014 farm bill was put together, agriculture already took significant cuts and shouldn’t have to take any more.
He says the timing for any more farm bill cuts isn’t good especially given low prices farmers are currently seeing for their commodities.
McDaniel says it’s advantageous to send a letter to Congress at this time when many are facing re election and have a lot at stake.
McDaniel says the groups also mentioned in their letter opposition to any proposals to re open the farm bill during consideration of the 2017 budget resolution.
