Coalition Asks Congress Not To Weaken COOL

Over 200 groups have written Congress asking them to leave funding for Country of Origin Labeling alone as they consider their funding legislation during the lame duck session. U.S. Cattlemen’s Association President Danni Beer says their coalition wants Congress to leave COOL intact while the appeal process takes place at the WTO.
Beer says anti COOL groups including some Canadians are lobbying Congress to cut the funding for Country of Origin Labeling or gut it.
She also says those who don’t want COOL to stay in place are enlisting support by raising the fear of Canada and Mexico going after retaliatory tariffs as soon as possible if the law isn’t rescinded.
Beer says most people support Country of Origin Labeling and the effort to weaken or repeal the law is being led by multi-national organizations.
