A working group made up of representatives of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the CME Group are looking at solutions to the volatility in the cattle market. Committee member and past Iowa Cattlemen’s President Ed Greiman says with the CME futures trading all done electronically now things have changed, including the problems with high frequency trading.
He says they’re trying to pinpoint the reason for the large futures price swings and trading ranges on certain days.
Greiman says while its slow, they are making progress on the problem.
Greiman says it’s also positive the GAO is looking into the issues with high frequency trading in response to a request from farm state Senators.
