South Dakota State University freshman quarterback Taryn Christion has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week for helping lead the Jackrabbits to victory over Indiana State.
A Sioux Falls native, Christion accounted for 320 yards of total offense in the Jackrabbits’ 24-7 home victory. Starting in place of an injured Zach Lujan, Christion opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, then threw his first career touchdown pass – a 34-yarder to Jake Wieneke – later in the quarter. For the game, Christion completed 15-of-24 passes for 221 yards and carried the ball 16 times for 99 yards.
The Jackrabbits, 4-1 overall and 1-1 in league play, will face their third nationally ranked opponent in a row, traveling Saturday to Youngstown State. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Eastern (3 p.m. Central), with the game available for viewing on ESPN3.com.
