China Trade Deal In Question In The Future

The Phase One trade deal with China is in question with COVID reemerging there and the lack of focus by the Biden Administration. Former Ambassador to China Terry Branstad says the China trade deal needs to be continued and enforced and he remains hopeful COVID concerns won’t slow China imports of U.S. ag products.

South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says they’re concerned with the inaction on the China trade deal by U.S. Trade Representatives Kathryn Tai.

Branstad says he’s going to try to meet Biden Administration officials soon to emphasize the importance of continuing the China trade deal.

He says while the Phase One deal was successful, he thinks China wants and needs U.S. agricultural goods to replenish their reserves and with their growing economy.
