The Trump administration announced yesterday that following one more round of technical consultations between the United States and China, China is to allow imports of U.S. beef. The conditions must be consistent with international food safety and animal health standards and the 1999 Agricultural Cooperation Agreement. Trade is to resume as soon as possible but no later than July 16, 2017.
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the process to re-open beef trade started with the recent meeting between President Trump and the Chinese President and so this is just the next step.

Perdue says USDA is working to meeting the strict safety standards China has set to resume U.S. beef exports after 13 years.

The Secretary is confident that the Chinese market will be open soon and it will be a huge boost to the U.S. beef industry.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation welcomed the announcement that the United States and China have reached a high-level agreement that will allow U.S. beef to reenter the Chinese market after a prolonged absence of more than 13 years. USMEF and its members greatly appreciate the efforts of the Trump administration and officials at USDA and USTR that made today’s announcement possible.
