Friday, China’s Ministry of Commerce terminated their anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases related to U.S. sorghum and revoked the preliminary duties on imports of the grain. National Sorghum Producers and Processors Association CEO Tim Lust says having the huge tariff lifted is great news for America’s sorghum growers.
Lust says U.S. sorghum exports to China won’t resume immediately. However, had the 178-percent tariff remained in place, it would have been devastating for U.S. sorghum growers. Lust says there are still some issues to work through, including smaller tariffs that remain in effect.
He says while the 178-percent tariff caused some damage, they are thankful work can now begin to restore that important market.
Lust thanked President Trump, administration officials, and the U.S. Grains Council for their work in getting a positive resolution to this issue.
