China has slowed imported red meat coming into its country because they have COVID 19 concerns with some shipments. That’s despite guidance from international health organizations that imported food shipments are an unlikely source of COVID 19. Joe Schuele with the U.S. Meat Export Federation says China continues to purchase large volumes of U.S. beef and pork but has slowed down shipments with their testing requirements.
He says China has also instituted a tracing system that is delaying meat imports.
Schuele says MEF’s main concern is slow down of imports especially with the start of the LUNAR new year in early February which is China’s peak buying season.
Schuele says China hasn’t singled out the U.S. by delaying meat imports but is instituting those measures on all countries selling to them.
