It took time for China to live up to its commitments to the Phase One trade agreement with the United States on the red meat side. While those commitments have been slow on the grain side, they were slower earlier on red meat but then picked up by last summer. Joe Schuele with the U.S. Meat Export Federation says for the first time ever, the U.S. has been shipping large volumes of beef to China.
He says beef has flowed better to China with them lifting some of their earlier restrictions that has led to stable export growth for the U.S..
Schuele says the Phase one deal helped the U.S. start to get more pork into China.
Schuele says they’re hoping to get even more red meat exported to China once the Lunar New Year hits in February.
