China has applied for membership in the former TPP now known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership or TPP 11. All of the CPTTP member countries would have to sign off on China being approved to the deal. Joe Schuele with the U.S. Meat Export Federation says China has to get by several barriers in order to gain approval although they do represent a lucrative import market.
Kent Bacus, Senior Director of International Trade and Market Access for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says he doesn’t think China getting CPTPP approval will happen but says they exercised good strategy in applying.
Schuele says China isn’t the only country to apply to join the CPTPP. He says the country making the most progress in that process in the United Kingdom.
Bacus says because China is moving forward to solidify itself as the world leader in trade, the United States needs to keep up and it would behoove the US. to get into the CPTPP.T Cut 10 Bacus Usnja q. re
