China recently made its biggest purchase of U.S. sorghum since April, buying 51,000 metric tons. Nebraska Sorghum Producers Association and Sorghum Board Executive Director Nate Blum says while that’s encouraging, his group is still waiting for a resolution to the trade war to open that and the entire market to U.S. exports.
He says U.S. sorghum growers have been and continue to talk with their Chinese customers and those talks are starting to show real progress.
Blum says while there’s a lot of competition in the global sorghum market, U.S. producers have a decided advantage over their competitors.
Blum notes that even though China has a 25 percent tariff on U.S. sorghum, the recent purchase still came at a good price.
