Minnesota cattle producers are receiving their ballots this week to vote in the state checkoff referendum. Minnesota Beef Council Chair Mark Malecek says they simply check yes or no on the front of the ballot to cast their vote for the voluntary $1 per head state assessment increase. However, they must also validate they’re a legitimate producer.
He says cattle producers only have about two weeks to get their ballot sent in to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to be counted.
The results of the check-off referendum are expected no later than April 7 to allow the beef council enough time to plan for their upcoming fiscal budget.
