Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that legalizes same sex marriage across the nation, states have had to make updates to their filing systems and electronic records. Mariah Pokorny is the South Dakota State Registrar and says that there is nothing different that same sex couples will have to do in order to request a marriage license.
After reports of a Nebraska clerk refused to issue same sex marriage licenses due to religious reasons, Pokorny says that kind of problem would have to be handled on a local basis.
Pokorny says that since the court’s ruling, 21 South Dakota same sex marriage licenses have been requested.
