About 20,000 Nebraskans insured with Blue Cross Blue Shield Nebraska through the federal marketplace will have to go shopping for new plans. BCBS Nebraska withdrew from the Affordable Care Act exchanges last week. Their officials say they lost about $140-million in the last three years since joining the exchange. Art Jetter is an insurance agency owner in Omaha and says BCBS is the state’s largest health insurer.
Jetter says it is clear that the ACA needs to make changes.
Those will BCBS Nebraska can continue to purchase individual policies but not through the government exchange. Two providers remain on the federal exchange for Nebraskans – Aetna and Medica Health.
