The Minnesota Twins plan to make some renovations at Target Field.

The team got permission Tuesday from the ballpark’s operators, the Minnesota Ballpark Authority, to expand event space and add a rail bar before Opening Day in 2015.

The Star Tribune reports the Twins say the renovations would cost about $2.5 million. The rail bar would replace retail space on the main concourse between Gate 6 and the left-field foul pole. It could accommodate about 200 fans. The project also would combine several suites into a larger event space.

Twins spokesman Kevin Smith tells KARE-TV the rail bar is aimed at young fans who “want to be with their friends and hang out.”

Smith says the Twins also are considering concourse ticketing, which would allow fans to skip seating altogether.
