With the change in weather this time of year pork producers need to be on the look-out for the re-emergence of diseases in their herds. SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Dr. Bob Thaler says there have already been reports of PRRS or Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome showing up.
Thaler says producers did a great job of stepping up their biosecurity practices when PEDV or Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus first appeared in the U.S. in 2014.
He says the whole pork industry worked together to meet the disease challenges a year ago. Thaler says having the diagnostic lab located at SDSU was a great advantage in helping producers battle those diseases.
Thaler says producers with any disease questions should check with their local vet or give his office a call.
