Chances for a Special Session

It appears the chances for a special session of the South Dakota legislature this spring are very low.

Governor Kristi Noem had said a special session would be needed to deal with the billions of new federal dollars coming to the state and rules for medical marijuana.

House Majority Leader Kent Peterson of Salem says they set up a committee to work on the estimated three point three billion dollars coming to the state…

Peterson says they aren’t facing a looming deadline to spend the federal dollars..

Medical marijuana will become legal on July first. Peterson says legislators will wait and see what if any changes are needed by the next session…

Peterson says local governments should work with the state Revenue and Health Departments as they develop rules for the roll out of medical marijuana.
