Chambers Spars With Governor On Corrections

A member of the special Nebraska legislative committee investigating the release of serial killer Nikko Jenkins from prison fired back at Governor Dave Heineman.
Heineman criticized state Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha, chairman of the committee, accusing Lathrop of reaching a conclusion about the case before the committee completes its work.
Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha came to Lathrop’s defense during a hearing at the Capitol. . .

Jenkins killed four in Omaha after he was released from prison.

Chambers accused Heineman of trying to deflect the culpability of the governor’s administration in the Jenkins’ case. . .

Chambers claims Heineman was more interested in cutting the state budget, than in protecting the public safety.
