The League of Women Voters of South Dakota has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a state law that places a thirty-day residency requirement for ballot initiative signature collectors.

League spokesperson Amy Scott-Stolz says the law is a barrier to citizen involvement in government….

Scott-Stolz says they want the court to strike down the thirty day requirement….

Scott-Stolz says they have been successful in other states with similar legal action….

The legislature passed SB180 in 2020 amending the definition of petition circulator to require residency for at least thirty days before collecting signatures.
