The Center for Rural Affairs has just released a white paper that recommends having policies that address food insecurity. Study author Nathan Beacom is a Senior Policy Associate for the Center. He says they want states to capitalize on being innovative in meeting the food needs of those who are experiencing hunger.

He says local groceries like many small towns have been struggling to survive but there are incentives that can be provided to keep those businesses operating and meeting local food needs.

Beacom says their white paper also recommends expanding the Double Up Food Bucks Program that assists those who have been SNAP beneficiaries.

Beacom says the White Paper also recommends actions for states to consider such as supporting farm to school programs and offering tax credits for he development of cooperative food ventures.
